End of school and 2Cure Cancer goes full throttle!

The semester is rolling to an end and it isn't getting quite fast enough.  With the end of the semesters comes more time to spend with family, but also to devote a fair amount of time to 2Cure Cancer.  There are only a hand full of things left to do before we can start full out advertising and promoting for the event.  Mostly I need to figure out if our potential venue is in Logan City or not, figure out a traffic control plan, obtain runner/cycling insurance, and we are on a go from there.

Also, I was able to get an internship for next semester.  I'm pretty stoked since I'm technically only a sophomore in the PR program.  I will be doing all the necessary web development and administration for the Journalism and Communications department.  I've started using Dreamweaver for my coding and my Online Journalism teacher is going to teach me Modx, and freeware program.

Another project I'm taking on for the Christmas Break is making an Arnold Air Society recruiting video.  I'll be using Adobe Premier to develop this.  I'm excited because I've never used this program so it will be fun to learn this program.  My goal is to make the video professional enough I can have it submitted to area and national headquarters for AAS.

The next two weeks will be crucial for 2Cure Cancer.  Lets just hope I get my stuff done.

2 Cure Cancer!

  I got the okay to do 2 Cure Cancer.  It will still incorporate Bike for a Cure (20k Bike Option) as well as a 5k Walk/Run.  I'm very excited about this.  It will be considerably less money but can still have a huge impact on the community and for the Cancer Center.  Tomorrow I will be making calls to figure out insurance, road closures, reserving the start/end venue, traffic control, and trying to cut costs on the event site.  It is an exciting time and I'm stoked to work on such a project.  More to come!

Something I did finally figure out.

  As the Public Affairs Officers for AAS I've been trying to reinvent the society.  So many of the members have smarts phones, everyone has a laptop, and spends who knows how much time on the internet.  Part of that reinvention means taking AAS to YouTube.  After hours of figuring everything out (like that a video longer than 15 minutes may load, but it won't let you edit the video, even after you've waited over two hours!) I developed a fairly decent YouTube Channel.  I haven't had much of a chance to take more videos but during Christmas break I'm going to work on a recruiting video and will post various clips to YouTube until I have it all finished.  To check out what is going on with AAS or what the heck it is, hit up the squadron website at johnkcannon.wordpress.com and for the YouTube Channel click here...yep, right here.

It all starts today!

  So, with the world of Public Relations and social media standing where it does, I figure it is time for me to get a handle on all this "stuff".  We will see how well it goes.  What to write about...
 
  As the Public Affairs Officer for Arnold Air Society I've been charge of several projects.  My biggest baby has been setting up at Century Bike ride that would help benefit Logan Regional Hospital's Cancer.  It was going great!  I had written up my very first communications plan and I had been given the O.K. from IHC to use their logo so long as we got everything approved, of course.  However, when I started adding up all the costs...no good.  AAS doesn't have $2,000 to pull it off.  So, I started looking towards doing a 5k, and that was looking rather promising.
  This past Tuesday through a whole other curve ball.  I got the word from my squadron commander that Bike for a Cure still needed to happen but I had to "cut the costs" and "make it work".  Talk about a sucker punch!  However, about an hour later, I got something worked out.  Hopefully one of two events will occur, a 2 Cure Cancer which would include a 20k bike and 5k walk/run, or Tri for Cancer which would have a 20 bike, a duathlon that would include a 20k bike and 5k run, and lastly a 5k walk/run.  Both events would be inexpensive, on the steep end around $750 and near $350 on the low end.  I'm now waiting on the go ahead because there is still loads to be done...
